National Police Week
May 16th - 20th, 2020
Greetings to All -
This past Sunday marked the beginning of National Police Week and today, May 15, 2020, as National Peace Officers Memorial Day. Established in 1961 as a way to pay tribute to all local, state, and federal law enforcement officers, an emphasis was given to National Peace Officers Memorial Day to give recognition to those officers who have been disabled or lost their lives in the line of duty.
In accordance with federal recommendations, I have issued a Mayor’s Proclamation for National Police Week, adding specific recognition for the Irwin Borough Police Department. This proclamation is Irwin Borough’s official expression of gratitude for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and also, to recognize and honor the fine men of the Irwin Borough Police Department who work in the line of duty each and everyday. In addition to this proclamation, the flag on Pennsylvania Avenue (at the end of Main Street) flying at half-staff, will be illuminated in blue in honor of Peace Officers Memorial Day.
I want to add that during this global health crisis that has affected the daily lives of all of us, the Irwin Borough Police Department has not wavered in the face of adversity. They have protected our community without hesitation. Thank you, to Police Chief Roger Pivirotto and our Irwin Borough Police Officers. Your tireless efforts, especially now during these times of additional risk and uncertainty to keep our community safe, does not go unnoticed. Thank you.
Mayor, Irwin Borough
